The Biggest Bestest Hat

A proud hat maker learns a lesson in humility when a young fisher boy proves himself worthy of the biggest, bestest hat.

Rodwell lived in a posh attic, if attics can be posh, above his hat shop in the fishing village of Tobiasse. Hats made important statements in Tobiasse. Large hats said you were good at your trade. Small hats were reserved for the lazy. Most everyone worked very hard so not to be embarrassed by a small hat.

Rodwell was considered the most gifted hat maker in all the land, and he knew it. He created each hat with flawless perfection, reserving the largest and most elaborate hats for himself. They swept far down his back so he could keep his nose high in the air. It was quite unexpected then, that a young boy wearing a lowly straw hat, should make Rodwell reconsider his hat size.
